Quarterback Matthew Stafford expressed his satisfaction with being back on the Rams’ practice field, wearing a new soft brace on his right thumb as a preventative measure. After a full workload on Wednesday, he is expected to continue this routine in preparation for his return from a thumb injury that sidelined him in Week 9 against the Packers.
In his first media appearance since the Week 8 game against the Cowboys, Stafford shared that the thumb injury, initially perceived as worse, occurred during three plays. Despite hitting his thumb in various instances, he realized the severity when he experienced pain after the third play. The injury turned out to be a sprained UCL in his right thumb.
Reflecting on the recovery process, Stafford mentioned working on regaining his ability to grip the football as desired. However, he expressed confidence in his capacity to perform at a high level.
Rams head coach Sean McVay has indicated his expectation for Stafford to start against the Seahawks, and with Stafford practicing fully on Thursday, he is progressing positively. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp emphasized the significance of Stafford’s presence on the field, highlighting his communication, command, and familiarity with the offense. The return of Stafford adds a valuable element to the team’s dynamics.
