The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a strategic move to address their linebacker situation, signing Mykal Walker from their practice squad to the 53-man roster. This decision follows the unfortunate loss of Kwon Alexander, who was placed on Injured Reserve after sustaining a torn Achilles in Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers.
Walker, a former fourth-round pick for the Atlanta Falcons, brings a wealth of experience to the Steelers’ inside linebacker corps. Having spent three seasons in Atlanta, he consistently played at least 16 games per season, starting 12 in 2022. His notable contributions include 107 tackles, six pass deflections, and two interceptions in the previous year with the Falcons.
The Steelers view Walker as a valuable addition to their linebacker room, and the player himself is confident in his ability to fill the void left by Alexander. In an interview with All Steelers, Walker highlighted his experience and versatility as key assets he brings to the team. Having previously held the “green dot” and played in significant games, Walker believes his background equips him to contribute effectively.
“My experience. My versatility,” Walker stated when asked about his contributions. “I’ve done it before. I’ve had the green dot before. I’ve played games, I’ve played in big games. Just my experience that I have out there and being able to call upon the coaching staff anytime I have it.”
Walker is expected to start in Week 11 against the Cleveland Browns alongside Elandon Roberts. With Roberts and Mark Robinson also possessing starting experience, the Steelers aim to leverage the collective expertise of their linebacker trio throughout the second half of the season. Walker’s signing signifies a proactive approach by the Steelers to maintain defensive strength amid challenges.
