Carlos Corberan calls on highly rated West Brom talent to keep growing

Carlos Corberan is encouraging Reyes Cleary of Albion to continue progressing in his recovery from injury and strive to earn a spot in the senior team. Cleary, a 19-year-old forward, has been a prolific goal scorer for the Baggies in youth competitions, netting 34 goals in 26 league games over the past couple of seasons.

Despite recently returning from a six-month absence due to a hamstring injury, Cleary was named on the bench in a recent victory against Coventry. Corberan emphasized the importance of deserving opportunities for academy players, stating that the need for their inclusion in the senior squad would be considered based on their performance.

After playing 45 minutes in an under-21s friendly following medical clearance to join the first team, Cleary had the chance to be part of the senior squad. Corberan acknowledged the challenges of recovering from a long-term injury and emphasized that Cleary needs time to regain his peak form. The manager revealed that Cleary was selected for the bench against Coventry because the coaching staff deemed him ahead of other players at that particular moment.

Reyes Cleary recently made only his second start for the under-21s since his return, scoring a brace against Reading, including an impressive long-range shot. Despite this success, Carlos Corberan is advising the young attacker to draw inspiration from the progress of his teammate, Tom Fellows.

Corberan highlighted Fellows as a player who initially moved between squads but, through consistent performances in training and on the pitch, has now secured a regular spot in the squad. The manager emphasized that day-to-day efforts and on-field contributions are crucial for a player’s development and progression. Corberan expressed confidence in Cleary’s potential and urged him to continue his growth in order to make strides in his football career.
