Miami Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel has provided an update on running back De’Von Achane, who sustained a knee injury during the Sunday game against the Raiders. While Achane left the game early and didn’t return, McDaniel stated that the injury won’t require surgery. Despite being day-to-day, Achane hasn’t been officially ruled out for the upcoming Friday game against the Jets, leaving the decision pending until later in the week.
Achane, who had been a key contributor in the previous weeks, faced a setback with this injury, particularly since it’s the same knee that kept him out for four games earlier in the season. The Dolphins, holding a 7-3 record and firmly in the playoff picture after their win over Las Vegas, now face uncertainties regarding Achane’s availability.
In recent weeks, Achane showcased notable performances, recording 151 rushing yards against New England in Week 5, followed by 101 yards against Buffalo and an impressive 203 yards versus Denver. Raheem Mostert, currently Miami’s leading rusher, is expected to take on a more significant role in the absence of Achane. While it wouldn’t be surprising if Achane is eventually ruled out for the upcoming game, the fact that the Dolphins haven’t made a definitive decision provides a glimmer of hope. With a short week ahead, the team is likely to exercise caution in managing the rookie running back’s status.
