Seahawks Urged to Make Move for Former Rival QB Amid Geno Smith’s Injury

Seattle Seahawks are facing quarterback uncertainties with Geno Smith nursing an injured elbow ahead of a quick turnaround for the Thanksgiving game against the San Francisco 49ers. Despite the injury, Smith is expected to play in Week 12. Drew Lock, the current backup, didn’t shine in his brief appearance against the Rams, prompting suggestions that the team should consider other options.

Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder advocates for signing seasoned NFL veteran Colt McCoy as a backup or potential starter in case Smith is sidelined. McCoy, recently cut by the Cardinals, has a wealth of experience, making 36 starts in his 13 NFL seasons. While he had a notable collegiate career at Texas, he’s been primarily a backup in the NFL, most recently playing for the Cardinals in 2022.

Pete Carroll, the Seahawks head coach, expressed confidence in Smith’s return for the Thanksgiving game despite the short recovery time. However, the team is exploring options due to uncertainties. Drew Lock’s lackluster performance has raised concerns, emphasizing the need for a reliable backup. McCoy is suggested as a viable choice to bolster the Seahawks’ quarterback depth in case Smith’s injury becomes a setback.
