The Houston Texans, initially anticipated to have a marginal improvement from their previous season’s 3-13-1 record, have unexpectedly become a focal point in NFL headlines. Stroud, who is increasingly showcasing his potential as a standout player.
While Houston’s defense hasn’t consistently stood out, there have been glimpses of promise, exemplified by limiting the Arizona Cardinals to just 16 points in their recent matchup. In a strategic move to reinforce their secondary depth, the Texans, as reported by Adam Schefter on Monday, signed cornerback Desmond King II to their practice squad.
King, a fifth-round draft pick in 2017 by the Los Angeles Chargers, demonstrated versatility in his second season, recording 10 passes defended and three interceptions. Notably, he earned a spot on the All-Pro First Team for his contributions as a kick and punt returner. During that impactful season, the Chargers achieved a 12-4 record, advancing to the playoffs and reaching the divisional round before falling to the eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
Having spent the 2021 and 2022 campaigns with the Texans, King accumulated a combined 14 passes defended, five interceptions, and 11 tackles for loss. His 2021 tenure also included three games with the Pittsburgh Steelers before his release last month, where, despite limited playing time, he contributed predominantly on special teams. The addition of Desmond King II to the Texans’ practice squad reflects a strategic move to enhance their defensive capabilities and augment the team’s overall depth.
