Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has provided an update on second-year running back Kyren Williams, indicating that Williams is on track to make his return to the field against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 12. Williams has been sidelined since Week 6 due to an ankle injury.
McVay mentioned that the team is currently in its healthiest state since the beginning of the season. Williams, who initially landed on injured reserve after injuring his ankle in the first meeting with the Cardinals, had an impressive performance in that game, accumulating 158 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
The return of Williams is expected to bolster the Rams’ running game, even though Royce Freeman and Darrell Henderson have filled in effectively during his absence. Williams still leads the team in rushing with 456 yards on 97 carries and ranks ninth among all running backs in the NFL with six rushing touchdowns, despite missing the last four games.
While Williams’ return is positive news for the offense, there are concerns about the status of veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who is considered day-to-day with an ankle injury sustained in the game against Seattle. The Rams have previously demonstrated their ability to succeed on offense without Kupp, who missed the first four games of the season due to a hamstring injury.
Looking ahead, the Rams have a favorable schedule with matchups against the Cardinals, Browns, Commanders, Saints, and Giants. McVay’s team, currently at 4-6, remains just two games out of a wild card position. A strong performance in the final seven games, with a potential 5-2 record, could propel the Rams into playoff contention. The Rams face the Cardinals in a crucial matchup on Sunday, and the return of Kyren Williams adds depth and firepower to their offensive arsenal.
