Brazil 0-1 Argentina: Here’s how Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes fared on a night to forget for Newcastle United. Brazil’s World Cup qualifying struggles continued on Tuesday evening with a 1-0 loss to Argentina; here’s how Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes fared in the eyes of the Brazilian media.

Guimaraes started the game at the Maracana as Brazil lost for the third time in a row after Nicolas Otamendi scored in the second half. Joelinton came on after 72 minutes, while Guimaraes was replaced by Douglas Luis shortly thereafter. However, Joelinton’s time on the field was cut short after he was issued a straight red card for a push on Argentina’s Rodrigo De Paul.

Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton make Newcastle United history – but it's a night to forget for Brazil

Although the red card was severe on De Paul, who appeared to commit a foul before being sent off, the Brazilian media slammed his performance.

GloboEsporte, a major Brazilian outlet, rated Joelinton as ‘the weakest’ player on the night, giving him a rating of 2/10.

“Expelled nine minutes after entering the field, he ended any chance of Brazil reacting,” according to the player ratings. There was an emotional imbalance.”

Guimaraes, on the other hand, had a 4.5/10 rating and was mainly blamed for Argentina’s winning goal.

According to GloboEsporte, “he started well, with a lot of willingness to mark and good passes.” He created a magnificent game-changing goal for Raphinha and a dangerous cross for Rodrygo in the second half.

“However, it was his erroneous throw that resulted in the corner kick, which resulted in Argentina’s goal.” Minutes later, he attempted another launch and similarly failed.”

Guimaraes and Joelinton will now return to Newcastle before of Saturday’s Premier League encounter at St James’ Park against Chelsea (3pm kick-off).
