‘The biggest one’… Pundit urges £45m player to sign for Newcastle

Instead, the analyst reckoned Phillips had a fantastic opportunity to join Newcastle, who were desperate for a new midfielder.

Agbonlahor was adamant that Phillips needed the Newcastle move for the sake of his career, which was going nowhere at City.

“This is the biggest one in the Premier League; he has to go for the sake of his career,” he remarked.

“At 27, he should be playing his best football of his career.” He was fantastic at Leeds but has only made 16 appearances for City.

“That is insufficient. When you have a player like Rodri, who is seldom injured, rarely gets sent out (apart from the one he got the other week), he is going to play the majority of the games, and Pep has demonstrated that he does not trust Phillips. “So, if I were Phillips, I’d say, “Let’s get this done.” Please transport me to Newcastle.

“They have lost Tonali to a year ban, he walks into that Newcastle team and fits that defensive midfielder role at Newcastle.”

Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Kalvin Phillips needs a switch to Newcastle in January

Of course, Newcastle has frequently been connected with Phillips in recent months.

Eddie Howe’s options have been severely limited recently due to injury and suspension, and new faces appear to be a must in January.

Furthermore, despite Rodri’s recent three-game suspension at Manchester City, Phillips’ minutes have barely increased.

Given how little football he is playing, the midfielder has conceded that he may need to reconsider his choices.

And many will agree that the £45 million guy is simply too talented to sit on the bench at any Premier League team.

Phillips’ probable availability might offer a significant opportunity for Newcastle, as he would add to their already formidable starting lineup.

With the likes of Anthony Gordon coming closer to an England call-up, having a current member of Gareth Southgate’s team in the side would be beneficial.

Along with Phillips, Agbonlahor has suggested that Newcastle should now make a £30 million approach for another England international who has fallen out of favor.

Newcastle appears to be busy in January, a window that suddenly appears to be a key opportunity.
