49ers Nick Bosa Sends Strong Message to ‘Excited’ New Teammate

Along the front line of the 49ers defense, a group based on star power and a willingness to work together, there is a very strong camaraderie. The unit has gotten that much better since San Francisco signed Chase Young at the trade deadline three weeks ago, and the fulcrum of the group, Nick Bosa, has a message he wants Young to remember: Bring the enthusiasm.

“Just having him out there is really good energy,” said Bosa to reporters, according to the 49ers Web Zone. “He’s eager to get out there and play.” He wants to get those crucial game reps. He wants to get those crucial game reps. And we’re talking about what we’re going to do before games, and whether he causes pressure [or] I cause pressure, it appears like the other guy cleans it up.” Following three bad games on both sides of the ball and a three-game losing run, the 49ers have cleaned up a lot in their previous two games heading into Thursday night’s crucial game in Seattle. The acquisition of Chase Young has also played a role. Following a three-game losing slide in which they allowed 1,186 yards, the 49ers have tightened up, allowing only 508 yards in their previous two games.  They’ve created six turnovers and allowed just 17 points in those two games.

49ers Tallied 9 Sacks in Two Weeks

In addition, the 49ers have had nine sacks in the last two weeks after only five in the prior three games. Chase Young is responsible for 1.5 of those sacks, while Joey Bosa is responsible for 2.0.

Young’s play has greatly improved this year, as evidenced by the string. Young recorded 15 tackles and 9 quarterback hits in seven games for Washington, and with 5.0 sacks, he was on track to surpass his career high of 7.5 sacks. If the 49ers’ purpose in acquiring Young was to relieve pressure on pass-rushing sensation Joey Bosa, Young was a perfect fit — the two were teammates at Ohio State. “He was a real big brother to me, I think, when I first came in at Ohio State,” Young told NBC Sports Bay Area. “From high school to a place like Ohio State, bullets can fly pretty quickly for young guys who just step in.” I’m reminded of Nick, who just greeted me with open arms. He taught me everything he knew.”

Chase Young: Nick Bosa ‘Catered’ to Me

Chase Young stated that while at Ohio State, Bosa took him under his wing and helped develop his skills to the point that Young, like Bosa, was drafted second overall in the NFL draft.

“When I got to O-State, Nick Bosa kind of catered to me,” Young said, according to NBC Sports Bay Area. “I think he realized how talented I was coming in there, how quickly I could move and catch on to things.” “I felt like he grabbed me by the shoulders and said, ‘Come here, I’m going to teach you how to be a great player.'”

Young appeared in 34 games for OSU from 2017 to 2019, totaling 30.5 sacks, including 16.5 in his junior year. Bosa played alongside him in 2017 and 2018, albeit an injury limited him to three games in his final season with the Buckeyes.
