For the Selecao, Bruno Guimaraes started, while Joelinton was named to the bench. He did come on in the 72nd minute to earn another cap for his country, but it was for less than 10 minutes.
In the 81st minute, the Brazilian was issued a red card. Following a confrontation with Rodrigo De Paul, he received a straight red.
The ball was in hands of Joelinton, who was being held by the Argentine midfielder. Joelinton was detained after passing the ball to a teammate, prompting the 27-year-old to whirl around and push De Paul away.
Despite the fact that it was little more than a nudge, De Paul collapsed in a humiliating manner, clutching his face.
Joelinton was sent off, and veteran Premier League referee Keith Hackett has expressed his opinion on the judgment.
Keith Hackett thinks Joelinton red card was wrong
Hackett has taken to X to remark on Joelinton’s red card against Argentina on Tuesday night. “Why didn’t the referee penalize Joelinton’s opponent who was holding him?” he wrote. I don’t see how this referee can show a red card. Joelinton was attempting to elude his opponent.”
Newcastle midfielder was on the end of a shocking decision
Joelinton deserved to be punished, according to Hackett. It was supposed to be the other way around. Even still, Joelinton done nothing so egregious that he deserved a red card.
The one saving grace for Newcastle was that it meant Joelinton’s night was finished and he couldn’t injure himself. That was all we wanted from Brazil vs. Argentina. While it is wonderful to see your players shine for their nation, the most important thing for Newcastle was that no further injuries occurred.
That appears to be the case, which means Bruno and Joelinton should be available to play against Chelsea on Saturday.
That is fantastic, and Joelinton will most likely be even more enraged than normal following the miscarriage of justice he had in the yellow of Brazil.
