Matty Young has signed his first professional contract with Sunderland AFC, the club has announced.
The goalkeeper has agreed to a three-year contract extension with Wearside until the summer of 2026.
Young started the Academy of Light at the age of seven and has since appeared in roles for every age group.
The Academy graduate took part in the club’s pre-season tour of the United States and made his first-team debut against New Mexico United.
This season, the 17-year-old has been a regular for Graeme Murty’s Under-21 side and has also represented England Under-19s at international level.
“I am overjoyed to sign my first professional contract,” Matty Young said. I began my career here over ten years ago, and it has always been my ambition to play for Sunderland AFC. The opportunities throughout preseason were fantastic, but I know this is only the beginning for me.”
“It is fantastic that Matty has committed his long-term future to the Club,” Academy Manager Robin Nicholls stated. It’s been a hectic few months for the young man, and we’re thrilled that he recognizes the opportunity that exists for him here. We are dedicated to furthering his development and assisting him in reaching his full potential.”
