Following Julen Lopetegui’s departure, the pair predicted Wolves would be relegated at the start of the season. Wolves, on the other hand, have made a strong start to the season under O’Neil, and are only six points behind Manchester United in sixth place. They could have been further up the table if it hadn’t been for bad VAR judgments. Lineker told the Rest is Football Podcast that they had examined their opinions. “Our predictions came shortly after (Julen) Lopetegui fled, and they were managerless.” “I am just trying to defend myself, Gary O’Neil has come in and what a job he has done. They are 12th in the table, but you have also got to bear in mind that they have had some VAR decisions go against them that have probably cost them maybe five points. “I think overall, they play good football and I am going to move to maybe a lower mid-table finish like where they are at present. I am going to admit I f***** up and got it wrong.” Meanwhile, Shearer added:  “I think he’s done a really good job. He’s been measured when he’s had to be and got angry with the officials and rightly so because of some of the decisions that have happened.”He had a lot to prove because of what happened at Bournemouth, which we all thought was really harsh.” I think he’s been excellent and is doing an excellent job. I don’t believe they’ll be relegated and believe they’ll have more than enough to remain up.”
