Throughout the week, the Los Angeles Rams eagerly anticipated the return of running back Kyren Williams, who had been sidelined for the past four games due to an ankle injury. This anticipation materialized on Saturday as the Rams officially activated him from injured reserve, marking a significant development in a series of roster moves. As a former fifth-round pick from Notre Dame, Williams had been on the verge of a breakout for the Rams before his injury setback. In the initial six games of the season, he showcased his prowess by accumulating 456 yards and six touchdowns with an impressive average of 4.7 yards per carry. A standout performance in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals saw Williams amass 158 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
Regrettably, it was during this standout game that Williams sustained his injury. With his much-anticipated return slated for Sunday against the Cardinals once more, the Rams are optimistic about the positive impact on their offensive capabilities.
Coach Sean McVay expressed his enthusiasm about Williams’ return, highlighting the player’s infectious energy, charismatic presence, and the positive influence he has on his teammates. Describing Williams as engaged and coachable, McVay emphasized the running back’s love for the game and competitive spirit, traits that elevate the team’s overall performance. McVay noted that Williams had a commendable week of preparation, underscoring the significance of having him back in the lineup.
The additional roster moves included the activation of rookie defensive back Jason Taylor II from injured reserve. Taylor had only made an appearance in the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. On the flip side, the Rams waived offensive lineman Zachary Thomas, who had seen action in three games over the past two seasons.
Looking ahead, the Rams are set to face the Arizona Cardinals for the second time this season at State Farm Stadium on Sunday afternoon. With Williams’ return and the reshuffling of the roster, the Rams aim to strengthen their position in this crucial matchup.
