It appears that the Seattle Seahawks have signed cornerback Kelvin Joseph to their practice squad ahead of their matchup with the Dallas Cowboys. Joseph, a former second-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft, had a two-year stint with the team. He played in 26 games and made three starts for the Cowboys during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Joseph’s time with the Cowboys was marked by inconsistency and a benching during the 2022 season after allowing two touchdowns in a Week 14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite starting just one game in the 2022 season, he played only two defensive snaps for the remainder of the season. The Cowboys eventually traded the 24-year-old Joseph to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for cornerback Noah Igbinoghene before the start of the 2023 season.
In his limited time with the Dolphins, Joseph primarily played on special teams, appearing in just four games and playing only 21 defensive snaps (8% of defensive snaps). He was released by the Dolphins earlier this month.
The Seahawks’ decision to sign Joseph to the practice squad may be influenced by his familiarity with the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive scheme and his experience playing against Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in practice. This knowledge could be valuable as the Seahawks prepare to face the Cowboys on Thursday night.
While Joseph’s recent playing time has been limited, the Seahawks may benefit from his insights into the Cowboys’ defensive strategies and his experience practicing against key offensive players. Although it’s unlikely that Joseph will have a major role in the upcoming game, his presence on the practice squad could contribute to the team’s preparation for the critical NFC matchup against the 8-3 Cowboys.
