‘Great news’ Tom Ross now reacts as West Brom takeover update emerges today

Tom Ross has reacted to West Brom’s newest update, stating that the club’s owners have acquired more finance from MSD UK Holdings Limited, calling it “great news for Baggies fans.”

The iconic local broadcaster stated fans they should be pleased with the news that the ownership group had borrowed a further £20 million from the American lender in 2022.

This is potentially worrying news for the club, as debts continue to mount during an ongoing takeover proposal, and might cast doubt on the deal’s conclusion.

Ross took to Twitter in reaction to the news, sharing: “Great news Baggies fans.”

A worrying development

Ross’ point of view is absolutely weird. The news is not good for West Brom fans, who have seen their team fall further into debt on top of the massive sum already owing to various lenders by Guochuan Lai and the ownership group that runs the club. As previously indicated, this could put doubt on the present takeover talks as more debt is accumulated that will eventually need to be paid off one way or another, and based on the existing owners’ persistent pursuit of loans, they are unlikely to be the ones to do so.

Given West Brom’s financial predicament, the takeover chances already appeared tricky, with a dire need to balance the books and pay off debts suddenly becoming increasingly important for the club’s existence.

If the takeover continues to stall in an attempt to acquire funds, a January fire sale of players has been proposed as one possibility, but the official club statement has stated that Lai will continue to communicate with parties interested in a prospective takeover.
