Hull City ace makes contract plea amid uncertain future

The seasoned defender is eager to sign a new contract at the MKM Stadium. Cyrus Christie, defender for Hull City, says he wants to stay beyond the summer and hopes contract talks go well.

The experienced defender’s current Tigers contract expires at the conclusion of the current season, and talks between him and manager Liam Rosenior have yet to commence, albeit the club does have the assurance of having the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

Rosenior has previously stated that he was unconcerned about making such important decisions so early in the season, with Scotsman Greg Docherty, Adama Traore, and Aaron Connolly also coming to the end of their contracts.

Christie, on the other hand, has expressed his wish to stay at the club he joined from Fulham in the summer of 2022 for the first time.

“I’ve found a home in Hull,” claimed the 31-year-old. “I’m nearing the end of my contract, so we’ll see if it’ll be my home for much longer.” I can only control what I do on the field. I arrived here and felt pretty similar to how I felt in Swansea. Everyone has taken to me, and it’s been fantastic.

“Yes, we’ll have to wait and see,” remarked Christie when asked about his interest in signing new terms with the Championship club. “Ultimately, it’s not solely my decision; that lies with the higher-ups and those in charge of making such decisions.

“As I’ve mentioned, my focus remains on performing. I am fully aligned with the manager’s vision and the objectives of this club. Within this team, I might be one of the older players, but my wealth of experience has allowed me to demonstrate various facets of my game.

“Last season, my role involved playing in wider and higher positions. This year, I’ve adapted to tuck into a central midfield role and at times, play as a third center-back. This shift might not be apparent to everyone. Some opinions suggest I haven’t replicated the impact I had last year, but it’s worth noting that I underwent a significant knee operation recently, which required me to adjust my style and take on a different role.”

Christie’s opportunities this season have been limited due to Lewie Coyle’s consistent presence at right-back. However, the defender, hailing from Coventry, made a crucial contribution coming off the bench in the game against Swansea. His involvement proved pivotal, assisting in both goals scored by Jaden Philogene and Tyler Morton, ultimately turning the game in City’s favor.
