Breaking News: Just In Boston Celtics now in advance stage to sign another experienced star

Celtics Consider 31-Year-Old Wizards Guard Delon Wright as Potential Trade Target

As the Boston Celtics navigate the 2023-24 NBA season with one available roster spot, trade speculations are emerging, with Washington Wizards’ guard Delon Wright being highlighted as a potential target. According to Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley, Wright’s defensive capabilities, marked by his good length and instincts at the lead guard spot, make him a valuable asset for bolstering the Celtics’ depth.

Wright’s offensive skills, though limited by a shaky outside shot, showcase his ability to create opportunities in the open court and facilitate for teammates. Despite being sidelined by an MCL sprain, Buckley suggests that assuming Wright overcomes this injury, he could be a plug-and-play option for the Celtics. Additionally, as a 31-year-old non-star on an expiring contract, Wright might be an affordable acquisition for the Celtics.

Known for his journeyman career across seven teams in nine seasons, Wright offers a proven track record, distinguishing him from other bench players on the Celtics’ roster. However, acquiring him would require strategic maneuvering due to his almost $8.2 million salary this season.

The potential addition of Delon Wright could provide the Celtics with a seasoned player who can contribute both defensively and offensively. Given the Wizards’ current standing as one of the league’s struggling teams, the cost of acquiring Wright may not be exorbitant.

In a related development, Celtics star Jayson Tatum praised Dalano Banton for his performance in a recent game against the Atlanta Hawks, highlighting Banton’s readiness and ability to play at a high level. Banton, a point guard similar in size to Wright, showcased his skills as an emergency starter.

Furthermore, the Celtics assigned rookie Jordan Walsh to their G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, indicating potential developments in their roster strategy. This move might be associated with the anticipated return of Jrue Holiday, who is currently questionable for the upcoming game against the Chicago Bulls. While Holiday’s ankle injury appears not to be severe, the potential addition of a player like Delon Wright could provide insurance for the Celtics in case of extended absences by key players.
