LOS ANGELES (AP) — Russell Westbrook had a lengthy conversation with a fan late in the Los Angeles Clippers’ loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday night.
In the final 30 seconds of the game, referee Lauren Holtkamp came over and stood between Westbrook and the seats. Two security guards entered the floor, as former Clipper DeAndre Jordan appeared to advise an upset Westbrook to leave the matter alone.
At Crypto.com Arena, the male fan sat in the row behind the courtside seats. He yelled at Westbrook while pointing his fingers at his head.
“I’m not going to speak on it because it’s not appropriate,” Westbrook stated when questioned about the fan’s yell.
“It’s unfortunate today fans can say whatever they want,” he told reporters. “I’m just trying to protect myself.” I, for one, will not allow it. I’m not going to put up with it.”
before the Clippers’ playoff series last season, Westbrook and a Phoenix Suns fan got into a heated confrontation in a club section at Footprint Center before halftime. When Westbrook was playing for the Los Angeles Lakers in December 2022, he had another heated altercation with a fan sitting courtside at a game in Milwaukee. “Respect is a big thing that I value so the moment that line gets crossed I won’t allow it no more,” Westbrook told the media on Monday. “I stood for it for years and now my son is old enough to know what’s going on and asks me, ‘Hey Dad, what does that mean or what’s that?'”
