GRAHAM ALEXANDER praised his “committed” Bradford City team after they cruised past struggling League Two rival Forest Green Rovers. Matt Platt, Andy Cook, and Jamie Walker scored to seal the match before Bradford’s Ash Taylor was sent a straight red card in stoppage time.
Forest Green are now three points behind Tranmere Rovers, who are just above the relegation zone. Alexander went on to say, “We looked at the players who were ready but we just saw commitment and energy, we thought we could go with the same guys again.” Bradford took the lead via Platt, who flicked home a Taylor header back across the goal after a smart corner routine.
Soon after, Rovers defender Jordan Moore-Taylor sent Cook tripping in the penalty area, and Cook sent goalkeeper James Belshaw the wrong way from the spot after 20 minutes.
Bradford went near again through Tyler Smith, but this time he poked into the side netting from an acute angle.
Tyrese Omotoye had Forest Green’s finest chance of the first half, but he skied his attempt over the crossbar from about a dozen yards out after a Jamie Robson assist.
Forest Green’s Callum Jones hit the crossbar before Walker made it three when he tucked home a loose ball after some nice build-up on the Bradford right.
Taylor was sent off in stoppage time for a professional foul as Olly Sully was through on goal, but the points went to the visitors.
“The players were fully committed and received their rewards,” Alexander concluded.
“Confidence can be quickly restored if you receive encouragement, and we didn’t give them (Forest Green) any.” We immediately built pressure and momentum.
“There is no disadvantage to winning games.” What we can’t do is pretend we’ve accomplished something significant. In the long run, there is still work to be done, and we must ensure that we are doing it.”
