Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has been outstanding for the Houston Texans this season, leading to a 6-5 record.
The Texans, who were anticipated to barely improve on their 3-13-1 record from last season, are currently well ahead of schedule and have a legitimate opportunity at claiming a Wild Card position in the playoffs. Stroud was at it again on Sunday, guiding Houston back from a late 24-14 deficit to have a chance to win before Matt Ammendola missed a 58-yard field goal that would’ve forced OT.
“What’s Wright?” remarked Nick Wright on his podcast. Stroud has the potential to outperform Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence is one of the NFL’s top young signal-callers, and he has led the Jaguars to an 8-3 record this season, despite his numbers being slightly lower than last year.
Through 11 games, Stroud has passed for 3,266 yards, 19 touchdowns, and only five interceptions while posting a 100.8 passer rating, outperforming Lawrence in each of those categories.
Even more, this year he has made young wide receivers Tank Dell and Nico Collins look like studs.
With Stroud already looking like a Pro Bowler, the Texans appear to have the kind of immediate future that no one could have predicted in August.
If he, Dell, and Collins continue on their current path, the team’s future might take it to places it has never been in its 22-year NFL history.
