Thierry Henry disagrees with Micah Richards and Ally McCoist regarding Newcastle United star performance

Thierry Henry failed to acknowledge Nick Pope for his point-blank save from Bradley Barcola in Newcastle United’s 1-1 draw with PSG.

Newcastle United were under pressure for much of the game, particularly in the second half, with the home side wasting multiple chances. Just after the hour mark, Kylian Mbappe beat his man on the wing, surged into the area, and cut the ball back for Bradley Barcola, who was five yards out, but he was denied by Nick Pope.

Micah Richards thought it was a ‘fantastic save,’ while Ally McCoist on commentary couldn’t stop talking about how the England player managed to get down and block it.

Thierry Henry, on the other hand, was dissatisfied since he didn’t think it was a spectacular stop, but rather a ‘poor finish,’ as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (28/11/23 at 10:20 pm).

Newcastle’s goalkeeper was in fantastic form again, just like he was against AC Milan on the first night of the Champions League, and played a significant role in his club not losing.

But, at the end of the day, you can only please some, with Thierry Henry reacting to the numerous chances that were being created by the home side.

Nick Pope against PSG

“They saved what they could have saved,” Henry explained. “To be fair, they had some chances to win the game before that.”

“Like I said, if you don’t put the ball in the back of the net, then the other team believe they can win it.”PSG simply couldn’t convert their chances, particularly in the second half. Barcola had three or four opportunities. Kylian had a chance to score. He attempted everything. Headers. Dembele had some as well.

“Barcola couldn’t finish Mbappe’s amazing work right there,” Pope said of Pope’s point-blank stop in the 66th minute.

Micah Richards interjected, saying, ‘Great save, no?!’ Thierry Henry said, ‘No, I think it’s a horrible finish. On the other side, you have complete access to the goal. It occurs. It occurred to be as well, but it’s a poor ending.”

VAR strikes again

Newcastle should return to England with three points and control of their own fate.

But that’s not the case after Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher reacted to a contentious and extremely incorrect VAR penalty call in stoppage time.

It’s now time to lick the wounds, return to Premier League competition, and try to build on the weekend’s stunning triumph over Chelsea.

Several players are impressing despite injury, none more so than teenager Lewis Miley.
