The Colorado Avalanche’s captain, Gabriel Landeskog, has been rehabilitating from his recent knee surgery in Toronto. Despite being sidelined for the entire regular season, Landeskog continues to serve as the captain for the Avalanche. Head coach Jared Bednar had previously explained his decision to retain Landeskog as captain even during his absence.
While Landeskog’s independent rehab allows Avalanche doctors to focus on current players, there are moments when the team feels the absence of his leadership. The Avalanche have been performing well, winning seven of their last eight games, including a victory against the Lightning on Monday night. However, they faced challenges with significant losses to Vegas (7-0) and St. Louis (8-2) in a four-game span.
In a positive development, Coach Bednar shared that Landeskog will be returning to Denver soon. The plan is for him to be back, potentially during the homestand in December, providing his presence to the team. Bednar didn’t confirm if this return would be permanent or if Landeskog would go back to Toronto.
While Bednar didn’t provide a specific update on Landeskog’s progress, the possibility of him returning for the playoffs remains a small possibility. Landeskog has been absent since the Avalanche’s Stanley Cup win in 2022, and his recent knee cartilage transplant surgery could potentially allow him to return for the postseason, with the condition that it may need to be redone if any issues arise during his rehab.
Despite missing their captain, the Avalanche have had a strong start to the season with a record of 15-6-0. Having Landeskog back in Denver, especially during the December homestand with five consecutive games at Ball Arena, could further contribute to the team’s success.
