The Carolina Panthers have bolstered their secondary by claiming cornerback Shaquill Griffin off waivers from the Houston Texans. The 28-year-old cornerback brings valuable experience and depth to the Panthers’ defensive backfield.
Griffin had been with the Texans, appearing in ten games during the current season. In that span, he contributed 33 tackles, four pass breakups, and secured one interception. Notably, Griffin has a connection with the Panthers’ organization, having been a third-round draft pick for the Seattle Seahawks in 2017 when Panthers GM Scott Fitterer worked in the Seahawks’ front office.
The cornerback spent the initial four years of his career with the Seahawks before playing 19 games over two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. His recent stint with the Houston Texans preceded his move to the Panthers. Over his seven-year NFL career, Griffin has accumulated 360 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 63 pass breakups, and seven interceptions.
Griffin’s arrival provides the Panthers with a seasoned cornerback who adds versatility and playmaking ability to their secondary. As the team continues to navigate the season, the addition of Griffin is expected to enhance their defensive capabilities and contribute to their overall defensive strategy.
