Tony Mowbray’s Sunderland team lost again on Wednesday, and indications suggest he is under pressure.
Sunderland came into this season full of optimism and confidence, bolstered by a superb roster. However, Tony Mowbray’s squad has begun to slip for one reason or another, with three losses in their last six games. Mowbray, who is currently 11th in the league after a 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield, is under pressure, according to reputable sources.
With Sunderland known to be unafraid of change, Mowbray must discover something fresh and modify his style to save his job. According to Michael Graham, while Mowbray is a fan favorite at the club, pressure is mounting.
Sunderland stance on Mowbray
Graham provided an update on the current scenario surrounding Mowbray and Sunderland’s attitude on his future following the defeat to Huddersfield.
“The info I’ve been given is that [Kristjaan] Speakman wants a young, trendy coach.”Mowbray is a strong and safe pair of hands. The players adore him. Amad will sign on his behalf. There are numerous opportunities. But, based on what I’ve heard, the club will make a decision soon.
“I believe the pressure will now mount on Mowbray, and rightly so.” Strikers are never given opportunities. That is a tactical issue, not a striker issue. It isn’t the only one.”
The striker issue is the most alarming, as Sunderland continues to struggle regardless of who is playing there, and zero goals in 23 games by a striker is dreadful.
Mowbray needs to improve but he deserves time
For as horrible as the last few weeks have been, Mowbray has an incredibly youthful squad, which is reason enough to give him time.
Young players will always be less consistent than veteran professionals, making it more difficult to win games.
Mowbray, if he is to succeed, must first adjust the system and then hire some experience to assist the youngster for the remainder of the season.
If he does not see changes quickly, it is difficult to see Sunderland executives not acting before January, especially with Speakman looking for a younger manager.
