After sitting out Week 12 due to a persistent knee injury, Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane is set to make his return against the Washington Commanders in Week 13. Head coach Mike McDaniel has confirmed Achane’s participation, signaling that the rookie’s knee problem has been given ample time to avoid becoming a prolonged concern.
Achane’s 2023 season has been marred by his knee injury, limiting his appearances to just five games. Yet, when he has been on the field for full games, Achane has demonstrated his prowess as a playmaker in the NFL. Accumulating 39 carries, he has achieved 461 yards and scored five touchdowns. Additionally, Achane has contributed in the passing game with 10 receptions for 71 yards and two more scores.
In Achane’s absence, the Dolphins turned to veteran Raheem Mostert, who has showcased his skills by rushing for an impressive 785 yards and securing 13 touchdowns. Currently leading the league in rushing touchdowns, Mostert is second only to Christian McCaffrey in rushing yards.
Despite the commendable performances of Mostert and Achane, the Dolphins’ rushing offense heavily relies on these two players, with no other Miami runner surpassing 100 rushing yards this season. While Mostert has thrived in his role, the return of De’Von Achane injects a different dynamic into the Dolphins’ offense, introducing another significant threat for big plays.
As the Dolphins lead the AFC East with an 8-3 record, they are optimistic that Achane’s return will bolster their chances for a successful playoff push. With the potential for Achane to contribute his explosive playmaking abilities, Miami aims to secure a postseason berth and continue their impressive campaign.
