As the Minnesota Vikings navigate a challenging quarterback situation during their bye week, the front office is actively seeking solutions for the upcoming season. Uncertainties revolve around Kirk Cousins’ potential return on a new contract and the performance of Jaren Hall, who could prove to be a draft steal if given the chance. Despite these uncertainties, the Vikings are closely evaluating collegiate quarterbacks, specifically focusing on Heisman hopeful Jayden Daniels of LSU and National Title contender J.J. McCarthy of Michigan.

Darren Wolfson of KSTP, speaking on SKOR North’s Mackey & Judd show, emphasized the Vikings’ serious approach to scouting these quarterbacks, indicating a strong possibility of selecting a quarterback early in the draft.

Jayden Daniels, in particular, has been a standout in the 2023 season, leading the nation with a remarkable QBR of 95.6, 40 touchdown passes, 3,812 passing yards, and showcasing dual-threat capabilities with 1,134 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. Despite his exceptional performance, questions arise about why Daniels might fall into the mid- or late-first round where the Vikings are positioned for their first pick.

Previously considered a late first-round or early second-round prospect, Daniels’ draft stock has surged, with projections placing him in the top-10 range. This rise in stock could potentially place him out of reach for the Vikings, who currently hold the No. 20 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

However, if the Vikings finish the season on a challenging note, their draft position may improve, potentially providing an opportunity to pursue a talent like Daniels. While the team has refrained from tanking this season, a couple of additional losses may prompt the Vikings to reevaluate their quarterback situation, considering the rookie Jaren Hall and positioning themselves for a potential run at a talent like Jayden Daniels in the upcoming draft.
