Just In: Chris Lepkowski shares ‘red flag’ verdict after takeover development at The Hawthorns

Chris Lepkowski has revealed details about a West Brom development that highlights the club’s “pitiful” financial plight.

Albion stated this week that they have taken out a new loan with MSD Holdings, from whom they already borrowed £20 million a year ago.

That simply adds to the obligations that the next owner, or owners, will acquire if a takeover at The Hawthorns occurs – if one occurs at all.

West Brom

In a recent episode of The Liquidator podcast on December 3rd, former Birmingham Mail reporter Lepkowski shared insights into West Bromwich Albion’s dire financial situation. He mentioned that several affluent Albion supporters have been approached by external parties, not directly by the club, regarding the possibility of collaborating and contributing financially to help alleviate the club’s financial woes.

Lepkowski highlighted that at present, it seems unlikely that anyone would agree to such a proposal considering the circumstances. However, he emphasized that this outreach to wealthy fans underscores the severity of the club’s financial situation. It indicates that individuals who are well-informed about the club’s current condition recognize the urgent need for action.

From his perspective, Lepkowski stressed that the most alarming aspect is the apparent depth of West Bromwich Albion’s financial crisis. The fact that such initiatives or discussions are taking place among external parties seeking financial support paints a concerning picture of the club’s overall financial health.

Worrying

There was a lot of movement in the takeover issue last week, but we’re still in the same place we were a few months ago.

According to The Telegraph’s John Percy, a Nigerian and an American party are the frontrunners to take over at The Hawthorns, but time is running out for a deal to be completed.

Taking out another loan means the club will be able to keep going for the time being, but the fact that these debts are building up is concerning.

There is still hope that a takeover will be completed before the end of the year [John Percy, 29 November], but practically, Albion will enter the new year in the same position.

This could force the club to sell another first-team player, putting Carlos Corberan’s promotion campaign in jeopardy.

For the time being, let’s simply cross our fingers that negotiations are proceeding behind the scenes and that an announcement is imminent.
