Alan Shearer sends message to England manager on star player following Newcastle United masterclass

Tino Livramento, who was born in Croydon and represented the Three Lions at youth level, can play for England, Scotland or Portugal

Alan Shearer has urged England manager Gareth Southgate to include Tino Livramento in his next squad. Another masterclass from Newcastle United saw the defender scarcely give Marcus Rashford a kick while also creating an attacking outlet at left-back.

Eddie Howe eased Livramento into life at St James’ Park, but he has wowed Newcastle fans since making his full debut against Manchester City in September. There were concerns regarding his arrival after he was signed from Southampton for an original fee of £32 million.

A high sum for a player returning from an ACL injury was regarded risky, yet after only two Premier League appearances, few are doubting Livramento’s purchase. The 21-year-old played every minute of Newcastle’s unbeaten week against Chelsea, PSG, and Manchester United.

Shearer has told former teammate and current England manager Southgate to give him his international debut. Given his ancestry, there is speculation that Livramento could play for Portugal or Scotland.

Tino Livramento admits he has already been blown away by £12m Newcastle star in training

“He’s played for England at almost every level up to now,” Shearer said on the podcast The Rest Is Football. “I would hope that someone, and if they haven’t already, they should call him and tell him he has a bright future in the England squad.”

“Whether it’s at right or left back.” He did sustain a catastrophic injury, but there has always been talk about his having enormous potential.

But it wasn’t until I watched him at Newcastle that I realized how brilliant a player he was. When you look at some of the major games he’s played this season, he’s been phenomenal.”
