Bills RB Leonard Fournette Sparks Speculation With Cryptic Post

Leonard Fournette made a stir when he signed with the Buffalo Bills at the end of October, but he has yet to play in a game more than a month later.

A new social media post stating that he is “ready to Hoop” has some admirers believing that the situation will soon change.

Fournette took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a post that some fans saw as a hint that he was ready to transfer from the practice squad to the active roster. The Bills have not played Fournette in any of the four games since he signed on October 30, instead giving former practice squad back Ty Johnson a larger role.

Bills' rumored Leonard Fournette free agent visit takes surprising turn

Leonard Fournette ‘Ready to Hoop’

Bills head coach Sean McDermott intimated before the team’s victory over the New York Jets on November 19 that Fournette had been studying the offensive playbook and could be joining the team soon.

“According to Sean McDermott, Leonard Fournette has been a valuable addition to the team and is still learning the offense.” “If not this week, McDermott says he’ll be a ‘big time consideration’ for call up in the coming weeks,” reporter Maddy Glab posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

However, Fournette was not lifted for that game, nor for the team’s November 26 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. With a crucial game against the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday, some fans believe Fournette’s social media remark that he is “ready to Hoop” is a clue that he may finally make the switch to the active squad.

“Go Bills activate the man!” one supporter said.

“A blitz-heavy Chiefs squad vs Lenny’s blitz pickup abilities…”I believe this is the week,” wrote another.

Bills Find Unexpected Contributions from Practice Squad

After Damien Harris, the experienced running back, was placed on injured reserve, the Bills made a move by promoting Johnson from the practice squad to the active roster, thrusting him into a more prominent role. In the last two games, Johnson has carried the ball nine times for a total of 30 yards, in addition to making three receptions for 47 yards and securing a touchdown.

CBS Sports highlighted Johnson’s increased involvement in the wake of offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey’s dismissal and the subsequent promotion of Joe Brady to the interim role. Despite Johnson being behind primary running back James Cook and seasoned power back Latavius Murray, his opportunities have expanded under Brady.

“Under interim OC Joe Brady’s guidance, Johnson has logged 24 offensive snaps in the last two weeks,” the report pointed out. “While he’s currently lower in the team’s depth chart, he’s also potentially just a couple of injuries away from having a more impactful role in an offense capable of scoring heavily.”

The Bills find themselves in a critical phase of the season, standing at 6-6 after the loss to the Eagles and aiming to rebound to secure a spot in the playoffs. They face a challenging schedule, first playing away against the Chiefs and then returning home to face the Dallas Cowboys.
