Matthew Upson highlighted an unusual sight during the Luton Town versus Arsenal game, mentioning that it was the first time this season he witnessed a player successfully take the ball away from Bukayo Saka. Upson praised Luton Town for their proactive approach in the match against Arsenal, emphasizing the Gunners’ need to put in significant effort to hold their ground at Kenilworth Road. He made these observations while speaking on BBC Radio Five Live during the game. Bukayo Saka was involved in the game’s first goal, putting up Gabriel Martinelli for his sixth assist of the season. Luton, on the other hand, were quite impressive and swiftly recovered, equalizing shortly after.
Matthew Upson stunned to see Bukayo Saka lose possession in Arsenal game
Rob Edwards’ team was physical and did everything they could to prevent Arsenal from playing their natural game. And they were fantastic at limiting the Gunners’ success. Alfie Doughty performed an excellent job poaching the ball from Saka and driving his team across the pitch. And Matthew Upson noticed that the moment struck out to him because it is unusual to see the 22-year-old not keep the ball.
“How many times this season have you seen a player take the ball away from Saka like that?” That I haven’t seen yet. That was a huge gamble, possibly a risk from Doughty. “However, it paid off,” he said on BBC Radio Five Live.
Gunners pass another tough test
During the first half, Arsenal was bombarded with questions. Luton played to their strengths and attempted to throw the Gunners off guard.
However, Mikel Arteta’s players rose to the occasion and produced some outstanding football. Ben White did an excellent job in setting up Gabriel Jesus for the goal that put Arsenal back in ahead.
So far this season, Luton Town have proven to be extremely difficult to beat. So those genuine quality moments from the visitors will mean a lot to Arteta on an evening that could have been disastrous for the league leaders.
It speaks a lot about how good Saka has been that Upson couldn’t believe he lost possession so easily.
