Appleton has given the official club website the following update on his situation: “It’s not great news – it keeps following us a little bit at the moment, doesn’t it?” He left training on Friday, as I stated, and regrettably, the scan confirmed that he has a [grade] two b, so we’re looking at four to six weeks.”

Charlton Athletic blow

Charlton will feel the absence of McGrandles in their upcoming games, as his presence typically bolsters their midfield depth and intensifies competition within the team. Under Appleton’s recent management, McGrandles had been enjoying increased playing time, contributing significantly to the team.

Previously, the Scottish midfielder had experienced a spell out of favor at The Valley, resulting in a loan move to Cambridge United in the latter part of the previous season. However, upon returning to Charlton in the summer, he managed to reclaim his spot in the squad. Unfortunately, this injury disrupts his momentum at a frustrating juncture in his resurgence.

McGrandles joined the Addicks in 2022 and has featured in 19 matches across various competitions, with seven appearances in the current term. His career has seen stints at clubs like Falkirk, Norwich City, MK Dons, and Lincoln City. Notably, his contract with Charlton is set to expire in June 2024, implying that he will potentially become a free agent next year.
