Latest News: Just In Atlanta Braves confirm another departure as top star

Michael Tonkin, a former reliever for the 2023 Atlanta Braves, has secured a new opportunity by signing a major league deal with the New York Mets. The news, reported by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, marks a significant move for Tonkin following his time with the Braves.

Despite being one of the less-heralded players on the Braves’ roster in 2023, Tonkin made a notable contribution, finishing the season with the fourth-highest innings pitched on the team. This fact is particularly remarkable considering the Braves’ impressive 104-win season.

Tonkin, who had joined the Braves on a minor league deal the previous winter, played a substantial role as the primary bulk reliever out of the bullpen. His performance resulted in a 4.28 ERA and a 4.43 FIP for the season.

In a significant overhaul of the 40-man roster earlier in the winter, Tonkin was non-tendered by the Braves, making him a free agent. The Mets seized the opportunity and signed him, though the full terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Tonkin’s journey from the Braves to the Mets highlights the dynamic nature of player movements in the world of baseball.
