Los Angeles Rams cornerback Derion Kendrick, who faced two misdemeanor gun charges following an arrest in October in Hollywood, has received a judicial diversion, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office. Kendrick, 23, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a loaded firearm.
During his court appearance on Tuesday, Judge Maria Lucy Armendariz granted Kendrick’s motion for judicial diversion. As part of the diversion program, Kendrick must fulfill certain conditions within the next 12 months. This includes performing 20 hours of community service and enrolling in and completing the John Hopkins Gun Safety Class. Additionally, Kendrick is prohibited from owning, using, or possessing any dangerous or deadly weapons.
He must refrain from using or threatening force or violence against any person and must comply with all court laws and orders.
If Kendrick successfully fulfills these obligations within the specified timeframe, the case against him will be dismissed. His next court date is scheduled for March 13.
Despite the legal challenges, Kendrick, a sixth-round draft pick in 2022, has been an active part of the Rams’ defense, starting 10 games in the current season. Notably, he made impactful plays, intercepting a pass in a recent victory over the Seattle Seahawks and also intercepting a two-point conversion pass against the Arizona Cardinals.
