Oscar Piastri, the McLaren Formula One driver, has said that no matter how delighted he has been with Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton’s careers so far, he still wants to beat them both.
Hamilton and Verstappen, who have a combined ten world championships, have been the sport’s primary protagonists in recent seasons.
Their long-running F1 rivalry peaked in 2021, when the Dutchman won the first of three consecutive F1 titles in the contentious Abu Dhabi season finale.
Hamilton lost out on his eighth race of the season and has since slipped far behind Verstappen, with Mercedes unable to create a car that would allow him to compete against the Red Bull star.
Piastri targeting Hamilton and Verstappen
Although Piastri’s F1 career is still in its early stages (he just finished his debut season in 2023), the Australian is determined to surpass both Hamilton and Verstappen.
“Who are my role models?” “I don’t really have a favorite,” he said on the eff won with DRS podcast.
“I think what Lewis has accomplished in terms of winning seven world championships is incredible.”
“I think what Max is doing right now is incredible, even if I have to try to beat both of them.”
“At this point in my career, I can still try to learn as much as I can from them.” So that’s been fun to see.”
