Rotherham United’s management hunt may be coming to a conclusion, according to writer Rob Staton, who says Leam Richardson is a “definitely a strong contender.” In recent weeks, Rotherham United has been associated with a slew of managerial contenders. However, none have been fruitful at this point, with Wayne Carlisle still in charge on a caretaker basis following Matt Taylor’s departure.
Leam Richardson’s name is frequently mentioned, and the Rotherham Advertiser reported on Wednesday that he has been interviewed by the Millers.
A new update on X has emerged from BBC Sheffield correspondent Staton. He echoes the Richardson claims, declaring himself a’strong contender’ yesterday. In fact, he went on to say that he “could see an end to the search tomorrow,” referring to today (Thursday).
Richardson has been unemployed since leaving Wigan Athletic in November 2022. He had previously worked as Paul Cook’s No.2 and took on his first managerial post at Accrington Stanley during the 2012/13 season.
A leading contender emerges?
It’s no secret that Rotherham United’s manager search has been dragging on for quite some time. Candidates have come and gone, but maybe a resolution is not far away.
Richardson did well at Wigan Athletic, delivering promotion in a difficult environment before being fired, which enraged many. He hasn’t played since, but he could be an excellent fit for the Millers.
Time will tell whether or not he gets the position, but supporters will be hoping for a new CEO sooner rather than later. After Taylor’s departure from Rotherham United, an appointment would provide some clarity on the team’s future and allow the players to finally begin learning a new method of playing for the long term.
