Eagles Add QB-Turned-Receiver, Cut 6-Foot-5 Wideout Ahead of Cowboys Game

The Philadelphia Eagles have had a flurry of activity in the lead-up to their highly anticipated rivalry matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Notable roster moves include the release of recently signed wide receiver Cam Sims, the addition of wideout Greg Ward, and the parting ways with linebacker Christian Elliss, who had started against the 49ers in Week 13.

The wide receiver shakeup is particularly noteworthy due to Ward’s history with the Eagles. Having initially joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2017, Ward has maintained a consistent connection with Philadelphia. The versatile playmaker played three seasons with the Eagles, including 10 starts in 2020. Ward, who last saw NFL action in 2021, signed with the Eagles’ practice squad in August, only to be released on November 30. His best season came in 2020 when he recorded 53 catches for 419 yards and 6 touchdowns.

On the other hand, Cam Sims, a 6-foot-5, 214-pound wide receiver, showcased promising physical traits for the Eagles. Sims had spent the past five seasons with the Washington Commanders before brief stints on the practice squads of the Raiders and Giants in 2023. Philadelphia signed Sims on November 30, only to release him less than a week later. Sims has since found a spot with the Panthers heading into Week 14.

Greg Ward’s journey to the NFL is particularly unique. After a standout collegiate career as the Houston Cougars’ quarterback, where he posted impressive rushing yards and touchdowns, Ward transitioned to the wide receiver position at the professional level. His diverse skill set and history with the Eagles make his return to the team a notable development.

In other Eagles news, the team successfully outbid the Cowboys for the signing of Shaq Leonard. The veteran linebacker visited Dallas but ultimately chose to join the Eagles. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones acknowledged Leonard’s decision, suggesting that the linebacker believes Philadelphia provides him with the best chance to win the Super Bowl.

Despite these roster moves, the Eagles find themselves as 3.5-point underdogs against the Cowboys in Week 14, according to Vegas odds. The skepticism arises in the aftermath of the Eagles’ recent blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers. However, computer projections by Quarter4, as reported by Heavy Sports, have the Cowboys favored by just .5 points, giving the Eagles a 48% chance to pull off an upset. As the Eagles gear up for this crucial matchup, the dynamics of their roster changes and the outcome of the game remain pivotal points of interest for fans and analysts alike.
