The Miami Dolphins and right tackle Austin Jackson have reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension, keeping the former first-round pick with the team through the 2026 season. Jackson, originally selected as the 18th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, faced uncertainties coming into the season with his contract set to expire and the team not exercising the fifth-year option.
However, Jackson’s impressive performance during the current season has led to a contract extension. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the three-year extension is worth $36 million, with $20.7 million guaranteed. The contract includes escalators that could potentially increase its total value to $39 million. With this extension, Jackson secures his place on the Dolphins’ offensive line for the foreseeable future.
Playing in 99 percent of the offensive snaps this season, Jackson has fulfilled his role as the starting right tackle admirably. As the blind-side protector for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, he has allowed just two sacks this year, showcasing his development and reliability in his position.
Before the season, there were concerns about Jackson’s performance on the offensive line, leading to speculation that the team might seek a replacement. However, the 24-year-old lineman has responded impressively, solidifying his status as a key player on the Miami offensive line. The contract extension not only reflects Jackson’s value to the team but also indicates that he is expected to be a cornerstone of the Dolphins’ offensive line for years to come. The turnaround in his play has been notable, and the extension signifies the team’s confidence in his continued contribution to their success.
