The Colorado Avalanche had an optional practice on Wednesday, and three significant players were spotted in attendance: Cale Makar, Bowen Byram, and Andrew Cogliano.
Makar and Cogliano did not play in the Avalanche’s recent game against the Anaheim Ducks, which ended in a 3-2 victory. Byram, on the other hand, left the game in the second period due to an “upper-body injury.” However, the team’s head coach, Jared Bednar, clarified that Byram’s injury was not related to the head, alleviating concerns about a concussion given Byram’s history.
Cale Makar, a key defenseman and a standout player for the Avalanche, has missed the last two games but appears to be nearing a return. Andrew Cogliano, who missed just one game, was also present at the optional practice.
Bowen Byram, despite not being on the ice, was spotted at Ball Arena, a positive sign suggesting that his injury may not be as severe as initially feared. Bednar’s positive update on Byram’s injury adds to the optimism surrounding the young defenseman’s recovery.
The Avalanche, with a record of 16-7-2, currently sit three points ahead of the Dallas Stars for third place in the Central Division and second overall in the Western Conference. The team recently secured a 3-2 win against the Ducks, but not without some drama, as they held on to their lead after the Ducks mounted a comeback in the third period.
Colorado is embarking on its longest homestand of the season, with four more games to go. The next matchup is against the Jets, followed by games against the Flyers over the weekend. The potential return of Makar and Cogliano, along with positive updates on Byram, bodes well for the Avalanche as they continue their campaign for success in the Western Conference.
