Auburn University has extended an offer to Chris McClellan, a former top 150 recruit and defensive lineman who spent his first two college football seasons with the Florida Gators. McClellan, originally ranked as the 113th best player in the 2022 class, had received an offer from Auburn during his high school recruitment but ultimately chose to join the Florida Gators.
Recently, McClellan announced his entry into the transfer portal, and Auburn was among the first teams to express interest in the six-foot-three, 320-pound defensive lineman. According to a source, McClellan’s decision to leave Florida was motivated by the desire to find a program that could better develop his skills and offer a robust strength and conditioning program. Auburn, with its capabilities in these aspects, aligns with McClellan’s goals, explaining the swift offer from Coach Freeze.
In the previous season with the Gators, McClellan recorded 23 tackles and half a sack. His 2022 season saw him notch 1.5 sacks, bringing his career total to two. He earned a PFF grade of 63.7 for the Gators last season.
Auburn is actively targeting defensive line positions in the transfer portal, making McClellan a potentially strong fit for the program. The hope is that Coach Freeze can successfully bring McClellan to campus, bolstering the Tigers’ defensive line with the addition of this imposing talent.
