During the Milwaukee Bucks’ quarterfinal matchup against the New York Knicks on Tuesday, spectators had to hold their breath. Not only was it a close game — at least in the first half — but what drew the attention of fans early on was Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injury in the first quarter.
The former back-to-back MVP has finally spoken up about the slam, and happily, it doesn’t appear that this will be a problem in the future.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Speaks Out on Injury
Speaking to media on Wednesday, Giannis revealed that there is some concern about his left ankle:
“It feels good,” Giannis said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “Obviously, a little bit sore today, but it is what it is. You get some treatment, you sleep a little bit, ice it, elevate it, hopefully it feels better tomorrow.”
For what it’s worth, Antetokounmpo battled through an injury to end with a 35-point, 10-assist double-double against the Knicks on Tuesday. His ankle appeared to be in good condition.
The following is the precise play in which Giannis injured his ankle after stomping on Julius Randle’s foot on a tip-in:
It’s worth noting that Giannis Antetokounmpo, who turns 29 today, is not on Milwaukee’s injury list for Thursday’s game against the Pacers. This definitely speaks well for his chances of making the semifinals, but there’s no certainty at this stage.
It wouldn’t be unexpected if Antetokounmpo appeared on a subsequent edition of the injury report.
