‘Unbelievable’ Ex-Collingwood star now reveals brutal reason he left club

Taylor Adams has explained why he left Collingwood for the Sydney Swans ahead of the 2024 season.

Adams, 30, who missed the Magpies’ grand final victory due to a hamstring injury, said that when he was moved out of midfield, the writing was on the wall.

After witnessing his teammates win their first flag in 12 years at the MCG, the vice-captain decided it was time for a fresh start in the Harbour City.
‘It would have been lovely to be a part of the big game, but that’s life,’ Adams remarked.

‘It would have been nice to be a part of the grand final, but so it goes,’ Adams said.

‘I was clearly playing out of my preferred position at Collingwood towards the end of the year…..I [also] felt my footy was on the decline, and there’s probably space for another inside midfielder at the Swans.

‘The footy club is in a great position, they [Swans] played in the grand final two years ago and finals this year.

‘It’s a fresh start for myself and my fiancé to remove ourselves from the [Melbourne] bubble, get up to the Eastern Suburbs and try something new.’

The Swans wasted no time rebuilding their roster after Buddy Franklin’s departure, welcoming new additions like Brodie Grundy, Joel Hamling from Fremantle, and James Jordon, previously with Melbourne Demons.

Adams emphasized that his focus isn’t to alter the club’s culture but rather to enhance it further. His primary objective is to lift the premiership trophy by September 30 of the following year.

Expressing his desire, Adams stated, “There’s only one thing I want to get my hands on, it’s pretty obvious. I played in the 2018 grand final but fell short… I’ve been chasing a flag for 12 years now. As you reach the latter stages of your career, winning a premiership becomes even more crucial. Hopefully, that’s the motivation behind my move here, and we can secure one.”

He also highlighted the potential of the team, stating, “There is the foundation of a really strong team here, and I’m excited to contribute to it.”
