Auburn anticipates the arrival of Derrick Harmon, a defensive tackle transferring from Michigan State, as part of the ongoing efforts to fortify its defensive line for the upcoming season. This information comes from a reliable source that informed Auburn Undercover on Thursday. Harmon, a standout in the Power Five conference, is set to explore the facilities at Auburn during the weekend. The Tigers were quick to extend an offer to Harmon as soon as he entered the transfer portal earlier this week.
Derrick Harmon brings with him a formidable set of skills and impressive statistics from his time at Michigan State. Standing at an imposing 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 320 pounds, Harmon showcased his abilities as a full-time starter for the Spartans this season. His noteworthy contributions include 40 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss (TFLs), 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. With two years of eligibility remaining, Harmon represents a promising addition to Auburn’s defensive lineup.
Auburn’s pursuit of Harmon stems from the need to replenish its defensive line, which has experienced departures through the transfer portal. Notable losses include Stephen Johnson and Enyce Sledge, who opted for transfers, and the expiration of eligibility for former Big Ten transfers Mosiah Nasili-Kite (from Maryland) and Lawrence Johnson (from Purdue). In light of these changes, Auburn is actively seeking a dynamic transfer player for the interior, aiming to complement the talents of defensive tackle Marcus Harris. The team is hopeful that Harris will choose to return instead of pursuing the NFL draft. Additionally, the defensive end position is bolstered by Keldric Faulk.
Auburn’s recruitment efforts are not limited to Harmon alone. Matthew Bedford, a transfer from Indiana’s offensive line, concluded his visit to Auburn on Thursday. The weekend will also witness visits from Southern Miss offensive lineman Gerquan Scott and Georgia State wide receiver Robert Lewis, highlighting Auburn’s commitment to strengthening various facets of its team. As the Tigers strategically navigate the transfer market, they aim to assemble a formidable roster capable of competing at the highest level in the upcoming season.
