Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is still grappling with a shoulder injury, causing him to miss Thursday’s practice and raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming Week 14 game against the Buffalo Bills. Pacheco’s absence from practice adds uncertainty to the Chiefs’ running back situation, with Clyde Edwards-Helaire and rookie tackle Wanya Morris gearing up for potential starts against the Bills.
Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy acknowledged the significance of Pacheco’s contributions throughout the season, describing him as “phenomenal.” However, Nagy emphasized the team’s next-man-up mentality, indicating that other running backs in the roster must step up in Pacheco’s potential absence.
Left tackle Donovan Smith, dealing with a neck stinger, also missed Thursday’s practice. Nagy did not provide definitive information on Pacheco and Smith’s availability for the upcoming game, leaving it open for evaluation.
Despite Pacheco’s injury, running back Jerick McKinnon, who has been managing a groin issue, participated fully in Thursday’s practice. The Chiefs coaching staff is navigating through various health concerns, aiming to field a competitive and resilient lineup against the Buffalo Bills.
Pacheco currently ranks third in the AFC and fifth in the NFL in rushing, accumulating 779 yards. His notable performance, including 18 carries for 110 yards in the previous game against Green Bay, has been crucial for the Chiefs. However, with the uncertainty surrounding his shoulder injury, the team is relying on the depth of its running back roster to maintain its offensive effectiveness.
