Los Angeles Rams now talks to sign top Patriots tight end star in free agency

The Los Angeles Rams, despite recently extending the contract of tight end Tyler Higbee in September, are advised not to overlook the opportunity to enhance their tight end position in the upcoming March free agency. The suggested target for this improvement is Hunter Henry, a tight end who has demonstrated solid performance despite playing for the struggling New England Patriots.

With a considerable budget for free agency, the Rams, led by General Manager Les Snead, are expected to be active in rebuilding their roster. While the team is likely to prioritize the edge rusher position, other areas of focus, such as tight end, should not be ignored. Hunter Henry emerges as a logical choice, given his notable contributions, including a standout performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers with three receptions for 40 yards and two touchdowns.

The Rams have faced challenges since opting not to re-sign Gerald Everett, lacking a reliable second tight end behind Higbee. While Higbee has been dealing with injuries and experiencing a decline in performance, the Rams have rotated their tight ends, reducing Higbee’s workload in recent weeks.

Furthermore, considering the uncertainty around free agents Brycen Hopkins, Hunter Long, and Davis Allen, the Rams may benefit from adding another skilled tight end. Coach Sean McVay’s offensive strategy, reminiscent of the 2017 and 2018 seasons, involves utilizing multiple tight ends. The Rams’ current tight ends coach, Nick Caley, formerly with the New England Patriots, brings valuable experience coaching Henry for two seasons, where Henry achieved impressive stats.

At 29 years old, Hunter Henry aligns well with the Rams’ current team-building strategy. A potential two-year deal, tying him to the team until 2025, could be a suitable arrangement. With his market value estimated around $14 million for two years, Henry’s familiarity with Coach Caley and the Rams’ need for a reliable second tight end make him an enticing option in the upcoming free agency period. The Rams may find Henry to be a perfect fit to strengthen their tight end position and contribute to their championship aspirations.
