David Prutton has made his prediction for West Brom vs. Sunderland’s lunchtime showdown at the Stadium on Light on Saturday (9 December).
The Baggies will be trying to bounce back after a dramatic late defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday (2 December), and will play a Sunderland side without a manager following Tony Mowbray’s dismissal on Monday (4 December).
And Prutton believes the Baggies will be “heartbroken” by the Leicester outcome after attempting to win on “Carlos Corberan’s principles” and believes the Albion will “nick it” against the Black Cats.

Sunderland were on a frightening run of results, with only two victories in their last nine games and struggling to score goals, but the choice to split company with Mowbray was perplexing, considering the squad’s age profile and the fact that they had no recognised striker.
The former Blackburn manager is one of the most accomplished and experienced in the game, and if anyone could turn the club’s fortunes around, it would be him.
Now, ahead of a critical game at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon, the Black Cats have given West Brom all the motivation they need to secure an away victory. Corberan, on the other hand, will not tolerate complacency on his side.
However, the Black Cats have struggled to score this season against one of the Championship’s finest defenses, so Prutton’s forecast is likely correct.
Following the Baggies’ last-gasp defeat to Leicester City over the weekend, they will undoubtedly be looking for a crucial three points on Saturday, but the uncertainty surrounding which Sunderland will show up on Saturday adds to the intrigue.
