Houston Texans offer C.J. Stroud injury updates after New York Jets defeat

The Houston Texans faced a series of setbacks during their 30-6 loss to the New York Jets, losing rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and leading receiver Nico Collins. Stroud entered the concussion protocol after a hit from Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, with the back of his helmet striking the turf. Stroud, who led the NFL in passing yards, left the game and did not return. Coach DeMeco Ryans emphasized the need for better protection, stating, “We can’t allow them to get back to our quarterback.”

Backup quarterback Davis Mills replaced Stroud but faced pressure from the Jets’ defense. Mills went 1-for-5 for 4 yards, and if Stroud misses time, Mills will likely start. The Texans’ offensive line struggled, allowing pressure on Stroud, who was sacked four times and hit six times. The offensive struggles extended to a season-low 135 yards of total offense.

Wide receiver Nico Collins also suffered a calf injury on the first offensive drive and left the game after surpassing 1,000 yards for the season. The injuries further depleted the Texans, who were already without key players Tank Dell and Dalton Schultz. Linebacker Blake Cashman and cornerback Tavierre Thomas also suffered hamstring injuries during the game.

Despite the setbacks, Coach Ryans credited the Jets for making plays and emphasized that the loss wasn’t solely due to injuries. The Texans face challenges moving forward, with uncertainties about Stroud’s availability and the need to address offensive line issues.
