Las Vegas Raiders reportedly planning to sign a free-agent running back as perfect replacement for injured Josh Jacobs

The Las Vegas Raiders faced not only a disheartening 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday but also the potential loss of their star running back, Josh Jacobs, who suffered a knee injury in the second half of the game. It now appears that Jacobs might be sidelined for some time to recover from this injury, prompting the Raiders to consider signing a free-agent running back to fill the void.

According to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, the Raiders are in the planning stages of signing a free-agent running back to address Jacobs’ absence. Jacobs’ performance against the Vikings saw him carry the ball 13 times for 34 yards and catch two passes for 16 yards before being sidelined due to the injury.

As of now, the Raiders’ roster includes Ameer Abdullah, Zamir White, and Brandon Bolden as the other three running backs. Additionally, second-year running back Sincere McCormick is on the team’s practice squad, and there is the possibility of promoting him to the active roster if necessary.

The free-agent market for running backs is limited at this point in the season, making it challenging for the Raiders to find a significant impact player. If they decide to bring in a new running back, it is unlikely that the player will have an immediate impact on the team’s offense in the upcoming weeks.

With a 5-8 record after the loss to the Vikings, the Raiders’ playoff aspirations for the season are dwindling. The team faces challenges not only on the field but also in managing the impact of injuries on key players as they navigate the remainder of the season.
