Houston Texans tight end Brevin Jordan has joined the chorus of players criticizing the playing surface at MetLife Stadium, following multiple injuries suffered by Houston players during their 30-6 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday. Jordan expressed his disdain for the turf, stating, “Yeah, man, that turf is trash.” He suggested that the sentiment is shared among NFL players, emphasizing that playing on the MetLife Stadium surface is not enjoyable but acknowledging the need to persevere and find a way to win.
The criticism comes after Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud entered the concussion protocol due to a head injury sustained on the wet turf during the game. Other Houston players, including wide receiver Nico Collins, linebacker Blake Cashman, cornerback Tavierre Thomas, and rookie defensive end Will Anderson Jr., also suffered lower-body injuries during the game.
This isn’t the first time MetLife Stadium’s synthetic turf has come under scrutiny. Former and current players have consistently raised concerns about the playing surface, with Miami Dolphins safety Jevon Holland calling for the Jets and Giants to invest in a better playing surface after a torn Achilles injury to Miami linebacker Jaelan Phillips.
Jordan highlighted issues with the traction on the field, describing it as hard and slick, and asserting that injuries on the MetLife Stadium turf are a recurring problem without any acceptable excuses.
As the Texans navigate the latter part of the season and aim for a playoff spot with a 7-6 record, the criticism of MetLife Stadium’s turf adds another layer of concern. Despite being listed as underdogs against the Tennessee Titans in their upcoming game, the Texans continue to grapple with player injuries and express dissatisfaction with the playing conditions at MetLife Stadium.
