Leeds United travel to Sunderland this evening, hoping to close the distance on Ipswich Town with another win after winning at the weekend.
Daniel Farke’s men are showing usual promotion-worthy form in the Championship, but the problem is that the two sides above them are putting up record-breaking performances.
The festive break allows Leeds to use their depth to reduce the gap, with Sunderland up next for the Whites and Ipswich visiting an improved Watford.
David Prutton predicts Sunderland v Leeds
Leeds’ last visit to the Stadium of Light was in 2017/18, when Samu Saiz and Stuart Dallas sealed a 0-2 victory for Thomas Christiansen.
A comparable outcome would be fantastic against a Black Cats side that promises to do more this season than that team did, despite the fact that they are managerless going into the game after sacking Tony Mowbray earlier this month.
David Prutton has made his prediction for the game, predicting Leeds will win 2-1, as he reported on Sky Sports:
“Sunderland put on a rousing display against West Brom, taking victory in their first game since the departure of Tony Mowbray. Can they continue that momentum into their clash with Leeds?
“United are flying at the minute. There is so much attacking talent there, and they are scoring goals for fun. This should be some game, I think Daniel Farke’s side will edge it.”
Sunderland are one of the top teams in the division, and despite their poor form, they will be a tough test tonight.
As with Blackburn, you can anticipate their dynamic midfield and attack to cause us difficulties in transition, and we must be prepared for it.
In terms of individual threat, it’s difficult to overlook Jack Clarke, but their midfield is filled with potential that should be monitored closely.
